Time:7:36 am.
Mood: awake.
Cool, the Ice-hotel's webcam has started working again. It's too bad it wasn't on when they were constructing this years hotel because it would have been interesting to see it being built. From what I understand they compact snow in molds to make the rooms and use ice from the lake to make the windows.

I stayed there overnight a few years ago and it was amazing

Time:5:33 pm.
Mood: happy.
I'm thrilled! My sister Mariya just got herself a Skype account and she sent me a few recent photos of herself. This makes me very happy because I often feel like she is so far away, we didn't grow up together and there is a large age gap I don't really know her as well as I'd like to.

If anyone reading this will be in Stockholm and is interested in history I recommend attending "Riddarholmsdagen" Saturday 12 May. Most of the buildings on Riddarholmen are government buildings and are only open to the public on this day.

Like Gamla Riksarkivet (the old national archive building) which has a really cool iron slide from the time of the second world war that was built so that books and documents could be evacuated quickly if necessary.

Are there any good places where you can use free/affordable wifi in London? I know Starbucks have some sort of Wifi hotspot service but they seem rather expensive.

It's Lucia today and a tip for any Swedes living abroad or anyone interested in Swedish Christmas traditions is that you can see Swedish televisions Lucia celebration from this morning here: http://svt.se/content/1/c6/72/05/69/luciamorgon.asx

I think Lucia is a lovely tradition. Lovely is also the traditional saffron bun (lussekatt) that I'm having with my coffee as I'm writing this

Time:8:56 am.
Mood: nerdy.
This evening should be good as it will be spent at home putting together my beautiful new computer. Yesterday after work I bought a processor (Intel Core Duo), motherboard and graphics card and today I'm going to buy a black Midi tower, 300GB Sata HDD and 1 GB DDR2 memory. The rest of the component I need I already own since before.

When I went to buy the motherboard a large computer stor in central Stockholm I found it packed full of people, at first I was upset because I thought I'd have to queue forever but I soon realized that they weren't there to buy anything, they were standing in line to test the new Nintendo Wii. Apparently it was the first public demo in Sweden yesterday and it actually looks kind of cool. Too bad I don't usualy like nintendo-type games.

Subject:Yesterdays find
Time:2:35 pm.
While unpacking the last of the boxes that came out of storage due to my recent move I found one of these

more info here Though I'm pretty sure mine is called "Luxor Video Entertainment System" and not "Channel F"

To my surprise it actually still works though I can't be sure as I don't seem to tune my TV to the correct channel to be able to test it properly, all I get is a distorted picture and buzzing noise. My first thought was to throw it out but it seems like such a shame. Does anyone know if there is a market for old 80's video games?

I've also found a couple of "Game & watch" from 1985 and 1987 that still work.

EDIT: Jeez, it seems this machine is actually from the 70's, not 80's as I originally though. Practically an antique

Subject:Hair recognition
Time:11:35 am.
As I've mentioned before, I've been rather bored at work this week so I've been surfing the net a lot. Many sites are blocked but I've just figured out that I can see youtube.com and found "my video" (ie the only video I've participated in where you can actually see and recognise me), Smashing Pumpkins "Try, try, try". I was pleased to noticed that the thumbnail that someone made for the video is a still of my very pink hair :-) I feel like I now have famous hair!!!

Subject:Bath in January 2006
Time:11:00 am.
Mood: cheerful.
Because I'll be leaving the UK soon I decided to finally get round to doing a few of those things that I've wanted to do since I got here like going to an opera at the Royal Opera house and visiting Bath.

I took a day trip to Bath a couple of weeks ago and brought my digital camera but sadly had run out of batteries when I was in the actual Roman bathhouses so I have no pictures from there. It was a lovely day out and I was glad to be out of the house when the builders were in my room. I went to see the Roman bathhouses, a free walking tour and the Costume museum. If anyone of you is thinking of visiting Bath I thoroughly recommend the free 2 hour walking tour.

Time:12:40 pm.
A late Merry Christmas to you all!

I've been trying to stay away from the internet and LJ as much as possible during my holidays and it's been very relaxing but I'm of course sorry that I haven't been able to reply to the lovely christmas messages I've received.

Christmas to me has been a rather tiring affair this year as I've slept on the sofa in my mother's 1 bedroom flat, and my brother has been sleeping on the spare bed in the kitchen. Both my mother and brother have very different sleeping habits to me (my brother was suffering from jet lag too) so I feel guilty that I've probably been a bit short tempered and grumpy due to only sleeping 2-4 hours a night. I really wish I'd been happier and energetic enough to help my mother with the food and other stuff. Present wise it was all perfect this year, I didn't want lots of stuff in case I'll be moving again soon and the things I did get were fantastic and all very useful.

It snowed again last night so Stockholm is covered with pretty new snow and the air is cold, clear and fresh and I'm about to go out and have a look at the post-christmas sale. If any of my friends in Stockholm sees this and wants to meet up for a coffee or something today or tomorrow, send me an sms on the number I listed in my previous friends only post.

The fabulous and talented nadya_lev posted a photo she took of me during her visit in London in her LJ. I love all her work and am so flattered that she wanted to use me as a model in a couple.

Time:3:20 pm.
I have loads of things I really should be doing today but really don't feel like doing so I've been messing about on the internet and stuff instead. I could definitely use some more self-discipline today.

I managed to transfer some photos that I took on a mini ghost walk/pub round that I went on with Fad and Dave from Slimelight hosted by the alway so friendly and helpful jonnytuna. I really need to practice my night photography, most of the pictures were not great.

Photos under hereCollapse )

OK, I really need to get back to work now.
